Job Summary:
The Power Plant Chemistry Technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the chemical processes and water treatment systems within a power plant facility. They play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the power plant by conducting chemical analysis, implementing corrective measures, and maintaining accurate documentation of test results. The Power Plant Chemistry Technician collaborates closely with other departments to optimize plant performance and comply with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct regular chemical analysis of water and steam samples to assess and control parameters such as pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hardness, alkalinity, and contaminants.
2. Perform routine tests on fuel oil, lubricating oil, and other chemical additives to ensure compliance with established specifications and standards.
3. Monitor and adjust chemical feed systems to maintain optimal water chemistry, preventing corrosion, scaling, and fouling of equipment.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve chemical-related issues, including identifying the root cause of deviations, suggesting corrective actions, and implementing necessary adjustments.
5. Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, test results, and equipment performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating effective equipment maintenance.
6. Collaborate with other departments, such as Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering, to optimize plant efficiency, resolve chemistry-related problems, and support plant performance improvements.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of chemical treatment programs, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and industry best practices.
8. Participate in safety programs, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and protocols, and promptly reporting any safety concerns or incidents.
9. Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to power plant chemistry and water treatment, and apply this knowledge to enhance plant operations.
10. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper storage and handling of chemicals and equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Associate degree or equivalent technical qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (minimum 2 years) working as a Chemistry Technician in a power plant or similar industrial environment.
3. Strong knowledge of power plant chemistry principles, including water chemistry, corrosion control, and treatment processes.
4. Proficiency in conducting chemical analysis using standard laboratory equipment and methods.
5. Familiarity with water treatment technologies, such as reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and chemical dosing systems.
6. Ability to interpret and analyze test results, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions.
7. Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
8. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve chemistry-related issues.
9. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
10. Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety protocols, and best practices related to power plant operations.
11. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
